Children and Youth Circus Karlsruhe

The “Aktions- und Zirkusbüro” develops and creates circus pedagogical offers, participation projects, and various cultural events in a large park area, which is situated in the city of Karlsruhe.

On the site of the “Aktions- and Zirkusbüro”, a lot of possibilities are offered. Children and youngsters with or without special needs as well as educated athletes, musicians, or artists are invited to present and train within the topics of sports, arts, or culture.

Big and small circus tents, different site caravans and containers are part of the circus area, as well as offices and gyms. An area for parcour, dirtbike trails and a beach volleyball court, a fireplace and a big natural area – all these infrastructures are part of the facility. The area offers many possibilities for projects and events for various ages.

Children and youngsters can bring in their own ideas, follow their interests, and have the possibility to co-determine what happens in the park. The concept is changeable and can be adapted to the current necessities. The ideas and the knowledge of the children and youth is an essential part of the planning for the future, they are involved in all steps.

A big and important part of the work of the “Aktions- und Zirkusbüro” is the circus “Maccaroni”. It’s a circus created by children and youngsters from Karlsruhe. Fixed training groups for children, youngsters, and young grown-ups organise offers for everybody: workshops, projects with schools and social organizations, holiday programmess, performances, festivals, and conventions. Within the training units, all circus disciplines are involved and implemented: juggling, aerial art, acrobatics, balance, fire juggling, Chinese mast and clownery.

32 hours in the circus area (sometimes in the evening/weekends):

• Getting to know all fields of activities of the “Aktions- und Zirkusbüro”
• Supporting the circus' pedagogical offers for children and youth
• Depending on your own interests and experiences, developing and realizing your own projects
• After some basic education in circus skills, becoming part of the trainer team and teaching children in circus disciplines

In addition to the general benefits as stated above, you will receive the following:

• Additional free days if overtime, evening or weekend work occurrs
• The possibilty to train the different circus Disciplines for free three times a week, participation in different trainings to improve your skills, your pedagogical knowledge, your knowledge in first aid or trainings in other topics depending the trainings which are offered in the year you will be with us.

• Possessing a basic knowledge of German and a very strong motivation to improve it quickly
• Possessing experiences in circus disciplines, circus pedagogics, or any other pedagogical art or sports (theatre, parkour, …)
• Having lot of energy to spend with kids in everyday physical activities
• A team player who is reliable, motivated and ready to take on the adventure of spending a year with changing schedules depending on needs, unforeseen events or very spontaneous changes to the daily schedule - because that is exactly what the magic of the circus requires
