The Kreisjugendwerk (KJW) of AWO Karlsruhe is a nonprofit children’s and youth organization in Karlsruhe. The KJW organizes different activities such as holiday camps for children and youngsters between the ages of 6 and 20, non-formal education and workshops, as well as intercultural exchanges and projects for young people and young adults between 15 and 30 years of age.
The KJW's points of interest are participation, personal development and inclusion: the activities of the KJW are open to children and young people from all social, religious or cultural backgrounds.
Since 2014 KJW is a sending, coordinating and hosting organization within Erasmus+ /ESC program. In the office there is both a German and an international volunteer working together with the team of colleagues. Besides that, hundreds of local volunteers are involved in organising the activities and the camps.
34 hours per week in the KJW office and in the children camps:
- Helping with press work, data processing, info events, Facebook/Instagram activities, photos
- Supporting the research and selection of European Volunteers
- Preparing each week’s newsletter with new ESC opportunities
- Taking part in a certified training course to become a leader in children and youth camps (4 weekends)
- Participating in summer camps with children both in Germany and abroad (around 6 weeks in summer, lots of energy required!)
- Actively proposing your ideas and organize activities for the local community - lots of creativity required!
- Helping the organisation of intercultural events and attending them. These are mostly in the evening.
- Organizing your own event about your culture and/or knowledge in a specific field, such as sport, art, music, university studies,... This will be part of a cycle of events called „Livin‘ Culture“. You want to check out previous events? Have a look at our ESC volunteers Instagram profile!
- Cleaning kitchen, cleaning and keeping order in the office and the storage/youth club
- Packing and preparing materials for Summer Camps and other events
- Purchasing drinks and other items for the office and camps
- Driving or cycling between the event locations to set them up for events
- Occasionally taking care of bottles and waste (glass, cardboard)
- Taking care of our office garden
- Helping co-workers whenever neccessary.
